RECREATION - FALL 2017

F.I.S.H.
"Friends in Service Here" is a group of concerned neighbors who offer non-emergency rides to those who have no other means of transportation, primarily to doctors' appointments, clinics and hospitals. This free service can be obtained by calling (914) 669-5082 and speaking with the coordinator, Kathleen Sullivan.  Also, if you are able to help by driving ambulatory neighbors one or two days a month, please give Kathleen Sullivan a call.
 
Zumba with Amy Greene
What:    An eight-week ZUMBA class w/ Amy Greene
When: Wednesdays, Beginning on 10/4 6:30 – 7:30 pm (No class on 11/22)
Where:                 Pequenakonck Elementary School Gymnasium
Fee:       $110 for all eight sessions
 
Yamuna Body Rolling with Susan Moyer
The practice of body sustainability using balls of various sizes and densities to knead out body tension.
When:  Wednesdays 7:15 – 8:30pm, Starting October 4, 2017
Where: Ruth Keeler Memorial Library

Better Balance Plus with Cheryl Aiello
In a supportive environment we explore balance and energy enhancing techniques using a variety of props (such as chairs, wall and blocks) and different modalities to keep the class interesting and enjoyable, including the use of balls to help build agility, stabilize and train the body to regain balance more quickly; Seated Stretches, TaiJiFit and Qi Gong movements to promote flexibility, coordination, and balance; Stretchy Bands to help build strength and energy and Specialized Balance exercises that improve overall confidence and reduce the chances of falling.

Therapeutic Recovery Yoga with Cheryl Aiello
This class will be a graduated guide for anyone who feels that their body is failing them be it from chronic illness, injury, surgery or age-related lessening of mobility. With this program, people with limited mobility can use yoga to take charge of their own health and restore a sense of control over their lives.
When: Wednesdays 6:30 – 7:15 pm, Starting October 4, 2017
Where:                 North Salem High School, Ground Floor
Fee:       Eight Week Session, $99.00 ($12.00 per session)
*Though the class is largely seated, you will still need the ability to get on the floor and up again with assistance. Please bring a yoga mat and a beach towel.
 
TajiFit with Cheryl Aiello
TaijiFit combines the best elements of fitness, meditation and the ancient martial art of Taijiquan (Tai Chi).  There is no routine or choreography to memorize or “get right.” You will follow five or six chains of traditional Tsijiquan and Oigong movements.  This class can be easily modified to accommodate those who are compromised or recovering by adapting the movements to be done sitting down in a chair as an alternative.

When: Mon., Oct. 16, 23, 2017, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Where: Ruth Keeler Memorial Library - Conference Room
What: Have you made the leap into the power of the iPad, but don’t have time to figure out all of its capabilities? Learn to maximize your productivity and have fun with your iPad’s buttons. Learn correct swiping gestures, software settings, touch pad typing functions and email set-up. Familiarize yourself with basic apps, surf the Web, share photos and more. Students bring their charged iPads, Apple ID and its password.

What: Are you merely using your iPhone as a phone? Integrate this amazing tool into your daily planning and communications! Understand the basic operations and enhanced features of the iPhone, including visual voicemail, conference calling, the calendar, mail, address book, iMessage text messaging, FaceTime for video calling, Safari to search the Web, iTunes for video, music and media and other apps.

Surfing Safari On The iPhone, iPad, Mac, PC: Searching Efficiently & Effortlessly - 1 session.
When: Mon., Nov. 13, 2017, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM

What: Learn the best practices, tips, and tricks of using the fast and powerful Safari browser for searching and surfing the web. Learn about Private Mode, your History, and clearing and deleting items, customize your Preferences and Settings to make it customized for you. Safari is a free download from Apple, for iDevices, Macs, and PCs.

Settings For iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch: Don't Be Afraid! - 1 session.
When: Mon., Nov. 20, 2017, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM

What: Confused about your iDevice's Settings? Wonder what's the difference between Notifications, Control Center, Do Not Disturb, Hotspots, iCloud, and various Apps' settings? Not sure which switch should be on or off -- and why? Concerned about battery life, privacy, ad tracking, GPS and more? Explore and learn about all the Settings and customize them to serve your digital lifestyle.

Goodbye Digital Camera. Hello iPhone! - 1 session.
When: Mon., Nov. 27, 2017, 1:00 PM to 2:45 PM
Where: Ruth Keeler Memorial Library - Conference Room
What: Learn practical techniques and tips for using the iPhone camera. Discover the best apps for photo taking, special effects, editing, post-processing, and more. The best way to organize (with on-iPhone & on-iCloud albums) and share your photos and videos via email, texting, shared albums and social media will be demonstrated. Bring your charged iPhone and your Apple ID and its password.

Top Ten Tips For Digital Photography - 1 session.
When: Mon., Dec. 4, 2017, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Where: Ruth Keeler Memorial Library - Conference Room
What: Refreshing the basics and bringing a new perspective to digital photography is the focus of this lecture class.  Learn what needs to be done to "know your camera" better; prep for a photo shoot; tips and tricks of composing your image, and of course the artistic considerations that make your photos stimulating and not just "snapshots”.

Adult Sport Programs
 
Men's Soccer
This program is held one evening per week during the spring, summer and fall from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. For more information call the Recreation Department.
 
Men's Indoor Soccer
Held on Thursday evenings in the Middle School gym, this program runs from October through April, from 8:00 to 10:00pm.  A registration fee of $20 is payable to the North Salem Recreation Department and is due at the first session.  Call the Recreation Department for more information.
 
Tennis
Tennis courts are located at Joe Bohrdrum Park. A recreation card is needed to play and may be obtained by calling the Recreation Office.
 
Men’s Basketball
“Over 40” program and “Under 40” program – one evening per week. Contact the Recreation Department for more information.
 
Summer Men’s Lacrosse
